Bio
What are some of the specific conditions you treat?
I treat a wide range of benign gynecologic conditions such as abnormal uterine bleeding/heavy periods, pelvic pain, uterine fibroids, adenomyosis, ovarian cysts, and endometriosis that may require surgery. In addition, I provide routine office well-woman gynecologic care, including contraception and manage many acute and chronic conditions such as vaginitis, abnormal pap smears, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and perimenopausal disorders. I also perform many office procedures such as IUD insertion/removal, Nexplanon insertion/removal, endometrial biopsy and LEEP.
What techniques or procedures do you use in your practice?
After finishing residency in general Ob/Gyn, I completed a dedicated fellowship in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, to have additional training and expertise in techniques such as advanced hysteroscopy, laparoscopy and robotic surgery. Compared to traditional open incision surgery, these techniques result in faster recovery times and better outcomes, but are more complex and best performed by surgeons with high surgical volumes and experience, which is why fellowship training exists. I also perform open surgeries for patients who are not good candidates for minimally invasive surgery.
What would you like patients to know about your approach to care?
I strongly believe in individualized care for each woman and engaging my patients in the decision-making process whenever there are multiple treatment options. I enjoy taking the time with my patients to get to know them and understand how their symptoms affect their lives. My goals are to help them understand their options, and then guide them in choosing a treatment that fits their needs, whether that be watchful waiting, lifestyle modification, medical treatment or surgery. When surgery is the answer, I value meticulous attention to detail and technique to achieve excellent surgical outcomes in a caring and compassionate manner. I became a doctor because it pairs my love for science with helping others, and nothing is more rewarding than hearing patients tell me that they felt heard, genuinely cared for, and that treatment changed their life for the better.

Dr. Astill explained everything clearly to me and patiently answered my MULTIPLE questions. I appreciate the time spent with me to put me at ease. Together we made a game plan on how to proceed with my condition. I will most likely need surgery but after our conversation I am confident she will continue to listen and include me in the decision making of my care.

Dr. Astill was clear and informative, straight to the point, but still had a gentle bedside manner. She and her nurse [...] continuously kept me as comfortable (emotionally) as they could during my procedure. I don't like when doctors are overly soft; I prefer straightforward treatment but with at least a little human touch - that is what Dr. Astill provided. I went into this visit nervous, and came out relieved, even though I still had to wait for my biopsy results. I just felt like, even if the results were bad, I was in good hands.
