Bio
What are some of the specific conditions you treat?
Some of the conditions I treat are type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, growth hormone deficiency, gender dysphoria, idiopathic short stature, congenital hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, autoimmune thyroiditis, panhypopituitarism, hyperthyroidism (Graves Disease), precocious puberty, delayed puberty, and polycystic ovarian syndrome.
What techniques or procedures do you use in your practice?
Some of the techniques and procedures that I use in my practice are growth hormone stimulation testing, insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring systems.
What would you like patients to know about your approach to care?
As regards Type 1 diabetes, I am a proponent of low-carbohydrate (or at least diets with enough vegetables & low-carbohydrate fruits) to improve diabetes control. Overall, I am a proponent of nutrition-based approaches to complement traditional hormone therapies (i.e. insulin, growth hormone) to manage endocrine conditions. I am glad to prescribe puberty blockers and cross-gender hormones for transgender youth.

I'm not sure I have the words to describe how wonderful our experience with Dr. Pelavin was. [...] had been seeing another provider for about 3 years, and almost every time we left an appointment, [...] left in tears, feeling belittled and shamed. Dr. Pelavin was the extreme opposite. He was kind and respectful, shared information and instructions, and included [...] in the decision-making processes to address their condition. For the first time ever, [...] left an endocrinology appointment feeling empowered and hopeful. As a parent, I want nothing more than for my children to be seen and valued, and Dr. Pelavin did that. I cannot thank him enough.

Dr. Pelavin spent time listening to and addressing our concerns. He was personable, kid-friendly, and really knew what he was talking about. He was also interested in hearing about "the whole picture", and not just rushing through the appointment.
