What are some of the specific conditions you treat?
I treat disease processes such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, interstitial lung disease, bronchiectasis and pulmonary nodules. Of all of these disease processes, I am most interested in pulmonary nodule evaluations.
What techniques or procedures do you use in your practice?
The procedures I use in my practice are thoracenteses, bronchoscopies with lavages, biopsies or endobronchial ultrasound, chest tubes, tracheostomies. In clinic and in the hospital, I frequently use bedside ultrasound of the lung and heart as part of my evaluations.
Describe some of your professional highlights.
I am an active member of our thoracic tumor board and ILD conferences.
What would you like patients to know about your approach to care?
I would like patients to know that I take time to develop road maps so that patients can be best prepared for the expected or unexpected aspects of medicine. I also try to integrate standard of care guidelines with the patient's own personalized preferences. It is important to me that patients feel that their care is a partnership between them and their doctor and that my ultimate goal is not just the betterment of their health but also the betterment of their well-being.
What inspired you to become a doctor?
As a teenager I was driven to find ways to serve my community. When I realized I had a natural inclination for medicine, I knew the best way to combine these two passions together was through becoming a doctor. While the science of medicine is the doorway that allowed me to pursue being a physician as a career, it is the privilege of being able to interact with, and care for, many different people from many different walks of life that continues to inspire me to go to work.
