What are some of the specific conditions you treat?

General gastroenterology and endoscopy, esophageal dysmotility (trouble swallowing), GERD  (specialty tests: motility tests of the esophagus, pH with impedance tests), constipation, colorectal cancer screening, gastroparesis, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and geriatric gastroenterology.

Describe some of your professional highlights.

Sita Chokhavatia, M.D., is board-certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology and geriatric medicine, and has been practicing for over 30 years. She went to medical school at Seth G.S. Medical College. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at Jersey City Medical Center, and also completed her Gastroenterology Fellowship there in 1987. She most recently was a Professor in the Department of Medicine at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and has also taught as an Associate Professor at Seton Hall University, UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School and Mount Sinai School of Medicine. She is a fellow of the American College of Medicine, American College of Gastroenterology, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and American Gastroenterology Association. She has served on several national committees in these organizations.

What would you like patients to know about your approach to care?

Her approach to care is patient-centered and when treating GI issues, other factors that are potentially having an impact on the patient's health are taken into account. Using state-of-the-art care she helps patients achieve their optimal gastrointestinal health and well-being.
